Board of Directors

Cori Nawn:
Cori joined the Whippets upon returning to Boston to work as a strategy consultant after spending time in Texas working for Military Medical Research and getting her PhD in biomedical engineering. Having grown up in a marathoning family, Cori has been a lifelong athlete and has deep roots with the Boston Marathon, in particular. She began marathoning, herself, during graduate school and found her greatest love for trail ultramarathons – placing 2nd in her first 50K and recently winning Stone Cat 50K. Cori lives in Kenmore Square and enjoys the beautiful sunrises in the City on her early morning runs, as well as getting out of the city on weekends for trail time!

Adam Forkner:
Adam co-founded the Boston chapter with David in 2015. Adam grew up in Milton and attended Trinity College, where he was captain of the cross country team and teammate of DWRT co-founder Matt Wong. He received his J.D. from Boston University School of Law and worked as a lawyer and advisor for the Deval Patrick administration. He has also served as a volunteer assistant track coach at the Epiphany School in Dorchester.  While most of his racing experience is in shorter distances (28:06 8K XC, 35:38 10K), Adam is excited about a foray into the half and full marathons. He lives in the Back Bay with his wife and two sons.

James Kraemer:
James has been running with the Boston Whippets since their inception in the fall of 2015. He picked up running later in life, inspired by a Dashing Whippet from NY who convinced him to sign up for his first race. He has since been bitten by the running bug and loves running and training with the Boston Whippets. James completed his first marathon, finishing the 2017 Providence Marathon in 3:36. He is a scientist at a local bio-ag startup, working on new technologies for pest control and plant health. He has a bachelor’s from Brown University and a PhD from UCSF. When not running, he can be found moving small amounts of liquid around the lab or enjoying a local brew, particularly an IPA or sour.

David Lopes:
David  has been running with the Dashing Whippets since summer of 2017.  He was born in Boston, MA and raised in Brockton, MA.  He ran track and XC for Brockton High School and ran track for UMass Amherst.  During his high school/college career he specialized in the 800m.  After school, he ran road races independently for several years before joining the Whippets.  He joined the Whippets seeking company for his long runs and he found much more.  He has run several road races and since joining the Whippets and has PR’d in the 5K, 10K, HM, and Marathon.  He lives just outside of Harvard Square in Cambridge, MA with his lovely wife.
His motto is the 5 C’s to Succeed: Courage, Commitment, Character, Class, and Confidence.

David Parkinson:
David was a member of the DWRT leadership team in New York and relocated to Boston in September of 2015. An attorney, he is also an RRCA-certified coach and has run more than 25 marathons, including 10 Boston Marathons. He lives in Charlestown with his wife, two sons, and two rambunctious dogs who keep him running, even on rest days.

Bill Sterritt:
Looking for consistency in his winter training, Bill joined the Whippets in January 2016. Little did he know he’d get roped into routing Saturday long runs, getting to know the streets of Boston and making friends along the way. Growing up in western Massachusetts he swam competitively and ran cross country to keep busy in the off season. After five marathons over the years, Bill is trying out different events from trails to ultras to triathlons. It’s uncertain if he’s ever smiled in a race photo.

Kie Watanabe:
Kie has been running with the Dashing Whippets since the summer of 2017. Kie discovered the joy of running with a team when she ran XC in high school at Phillips Academy Andover and her team won first place at New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) championships in consecutive years. After graduating from the University of Chicago in 2012, Kie ran her first marathon in Tokyo to counterbalance long working hours at her first full-time job in Tokyo. Since then, Kie has completed four marathon majors including a 3:04 PR at Boston in 2017, a handful of shorter distance road / trail races, and placed fourth in her AG at 70.3 Lake Placid in September 2019.

Matthew Wong:
Matt co-founded the NYC chapter of the Dashing Whippets in May 2009. Matt grew up in Connecticut and graduated with a BA in Economics at Trinity College in Hartford, CT in 2000 and an MPA from the University of Connecticut in 2006. Matt has been running since joining his high school cross country team his sophomore year. He then had an admittedly mediocre cross country and track career at Trinity. Since being with the team, Matt has completed 3 marathons with a 2:57:24 PR at the 2013 Boston Marathon and many other races, including a 4:48 mile at the 2015 Fifth Avenue Mile and a 1:18:40 half marathon in the 2016 NYC Half Marathon. Matt lives in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn with his wife and twin daughters.
